It Was Said Rick Pollitt Was an “Able Man”, Had “Thighs of Thunderous Proportion”, and “Enjoyed Pulled Pork”: Dinner Course 2

It was said that one man, Richard "Rick" Pollitt, was going to save the lowly people of County Wicomico, Maryland from their rude and shameful lives.

It was said he was an "able man", had "thighs of thunderous proportion", and "enjoyed pulled pork": gossip which the local rabble repeated amongst themselves and gained confidence by — until a lone man stamping his feet on the roof of McDonald's screamed down:

I say to you once again that a mountainous man of lard, as Rick Pollitt appears to be, is not qualified as Wicomico County Executive or any leadership position — for he spends his time more affectionately with donuts instead of at the budget and proper planning.

But the proof is in the pudding, so to speak, and the meat and potatoes of Rick Pollitt's campaign are disgorged in readable format on Pollitt's campaign website ricksfriends.com in a 10 Course Dinner political stand.

Let us taste briefly of the next Dinner Course that this man Pollitt has put on the table for us:

Course 2. “Growth” …

May ye gods strike me dead, or super size my next heart stopping fast food order, if Pollitt does not have a glut of information on the topic of growth — especially as one who was “intimately involved in Fruitland’s planning and zoning effort for 22 years” should have.

Pollitt begins with poetic license, “Whatever your perspective, we cannot escape the inevitability of change. It is the one constant of our lives,” to which the listener swoons from this bit of wit.

In general, Pollitt believes in “creating a climate of responsible, managed growth.

In particular, he says, “We have shown that it is possible to achieve good growth that provides for the infrastructure to support it, requiring those who profit most from the growth to pay their way. Where the street system is not adequate…we require the developers to build new streets. We imposed water and sewer impact fees [in Fruitland] to offset the cost of expensive expansion of our water and wastewater services.

This means nothing other than Pollitt supporting growth as long as developers pay for it, which also means nothing because the discriminating “how” regarding how growth should proceed is left out. No statements, suggestions, examples, or any other detail is provided on how towns should develop, only that they should develop by “responsible, managed growth.

Then, in a friendly sounding admission, but only to himself, Pollitt affirms:

Yes, Fruitland’s growth has been responsible and it has been good for our community.

Correction, you Pile of Porridge! Fruitland is a disaster!

Firstly, where exactly is Fruitland apart from Pollitt scattering it all over the landscape by way of an infernal Walmart with attached strip mall planted in the middle of a corn field? and distant housing developments hidden away in the surrounding forests? What kind of centrality does Fruitland have, as successful and livable towns have typically?

Secondly, what financial functionality of a downtown does Fruitland have that was not squeezed out by the corporate big boxes and chain restaurants in that former corn field? Where are community based businesses that are locally financed?

Thirdly and furthermore dear sir, why does Fruitland continue to have dangerous and crime ridden housing projects and run down areas between Cedar Lane and Rt 13, and next to Top City across Rt. 13 in close proximity to the downtown?

Friends and Countymen! Rick Pollitt has absolutely no idea of what makes a successful livable town. The results of Fruitland speak to that. A quick walk around what should be a centralized and productive downtown, and then a car drive to the surrounding area’s housing developments is enough to conclude that impotent bloatedness and scattering is the order of Pollitt’s town planning.

But steady now friends! If Pollitt can keep his own body mass centralized and in one location, though to the dismay of those attempting to pass him on the sidewalk, and health insurers too — why contradict his own principles and inflict disarray and mismatching on the Fruitland landscape and community?

In short, Pollitt provides no ideas or guidance on how to make a better community: humanly, structurally, or financially.

We have come now to the end of my time. Thank you peasants for lending me your ears! Until we meet again, fare well and eat well!

The lone man's name? Outraged Richard, analyzing Richard "Rick" Pollitt when he was craving and convincing others to elect him for Wicomico County Executive office in 2006.

Pollitt, a man who maintained a website: ricksfriends.com, that trumpeted his campaign's promises and principles — a website which he tore down, some said devoured, once he was elected.

But hearken closely dear friends and detractors! Pollitt's promises and principles live on at outragedrichard.com in an ongoing series of revived past posts that have been dragged from the depths of forgotten history.

Ladies and gentlemen! We present to you in all his jiggling and swaying and diabetic needles and doctors, in all his empty campaign promises, directing truckloads of sprinkled donuts through a haze of confectioner's sugar dust wind… Pollitt!
