People Should Not Have Pets
"I have never met a pet owner who was not mentally handicapped in some significant and social way." —Outraged Richard
People should not have pets. Almost without exception, the pet serves as a justification and extension of the owner’s stunted relating to the world.
In the realm of human work, however, animals can serve a responsible purpose, and only if considered as a valuable addition to work, such as a dog sheep herding or helping the blind, or a cat as a ratter on board a ship.
But out of this realm the animal, as merely a “pet”, is twisted into being another addition to the distraction and clutter of the owner’s mind.
